Motorised Blinds
As time moves on and technology improves you will not be surprised to find that your traditional window blinds can now be motorised. Whether you opt for a simple up and down remote for a roller blind to a whole house automated and controlled from a series of programs set from the other side of the world there will always be an answer to suit everyone.
There are many motors on the market for motorising blinds and we will always aim to give you the best advice and options when it comes to choosing your preferred motorisation route which will often depend on the choice of products you have made and any future or existing plans for smart products in the home.
Below is a brief overview of the main motors we offer.
Somfy
Somfy is a well known and established brand of motor which has been used in blinds for many years but also many other products such as garage doors and electric gates. For this reason, it is generally our go to motor for most projects we work on due to its reliability, life span and length of time a single charge will last. These motors are available in many different sizes and strengths depending on the size of the blind and are compatible for just about all of our products which means you can have many different types of blinds in your home but controlled with the same system.
Somfy motors allow the user to set upper and lower limits and an additional ‘My favourite’ position for added flexibility. A variety of control options are available such as the simple remote control, wall mounted switch or the use of a smart device with the addition of the Tahoma Switch. Remote controls are the most popular option so you can simply adjust your blinds from the comfort of your sofa or without having to get out of bed. The introduction of the Tahoma Switch turns an automated product into a smart product. This enables you, as the user, to operate your blinds and curtains through devices such as mobile phones and smart speakers. Through the app you are also able to set scenes and schedules which can take over the opening and closing of your blinds at set times through the week so you don’t have to which is perfect for our busy lives and security if we are not around.
The Tahoma Switch also allows you to integrate any other Somfy motorised product in your house for a seamless smart set up but also allows other brands such as Velux blinds and Phillips hue light bulbs. It is also fully compatible with sophisticated home automation systems such as control 4.
Louvolite one touch
Louvolite are well known within the blind industry for their continued development of products, components and fabrics and to go along side this they have their own series of motors. A once fairly basic and entry level motor has now evolved into a much more efficient, simple to use and durable motor suitable for many blinds. Similar to the Somfy motors upper, lower and intermediate limits can be set and controlled with a remote control or their own smart home hub which again can be controlled through devices such as mobile phones and smart speakers.
Luxaflex Powerview
The Powerview system recently benefitted from a big upgrade in the summer of 2023 which has made it one of the most sophisticated and user-friendly motors around. From increasing the simple things such as signal range to lots of clever smart features in the app we are always finding new ways in which we can use it. Only available in Luxaflex products it has meant it has been specifically developed to work with these individual blinds so features such as integrated battery packs are a big bonus so you do not have to try to hide external batteries and cables where there may not be room to do so.
Controlling the blinds is commonly done through the ‘Pebble’ remote control which is an ergonomically designed remote control offering 6 separate channels. As most motors they also have a gateway hub which can allow a whole host of smart home automated features but unlike many other motors the app is available without the gateway and offers some basic smart features and programming options which is often a useful entry point for someone just starting out in their smart home journey.
As with Somfy, Powerview is fully compatible with home automation systems such as control 4 and Apple HomeKit plus many more.
